Number of games to play

It is a bit sad to come to ChessConquest and find that there are no moves waiting for you. The obvious solution is to start a few new games. That is called underload.

All goes well. You play the opening moves and everything's easy. Then life gets interesting. You discover that there are just simply too many games to pay attention to them all. That is called overload.

So: how many games are you playing now? Do you feel overloadad or underloaded? What is the perfect number of games to play?

Currently I have about 10 "active" games, and for me that a comfortable amount of games without feeling overloaded or underloaded.

I currently have 10 active games, which is the lowest it's been in a year! Even though it's a relief to have such a relatively low amount for a change, I still feel a bit overwhelmed. It's as though there's a constant pressure to keep up to date with my games, and I could really use a break. Once a game is out of the opening then I'm not one to just play any move. I really need to first feel comfortable with a decision, but with day-to-day pressures and the exams that I'm currently faced with, it's not simple to dedicate the necessary time. To get around this, when it feels appropriate I will try and analyse some games in blitz-mode, because sometimes a position doesn't require anything more than an intuitive move. But I can't exactly recommend this... I can easily feel too comfortable with a position, and now I've been making more bad moves than ever. As an example, here's one of my games against raminrus . Move 43 is an absolute howler. Luckily he missed taking the 2nd pawn, but I still don't know where this is gonna go...

For me, the ideal number of games would be around 6-8. For a long time I've felt like resigning several games to get it there, and my studies would probably benefit from doing so... but right now, I'm fighting through! I like staying busy. :)

Each player gets 40 vacation days per year. In your profile, simply click "Go on vacation" when you need a break. When on vacation your all your game clocks are stopped (including tournament games), so you don't have to worry about time outs. As soon as you make a move again, your profile will automatically update that you are back from vacation.

Good luck with the exams ;-)

I only have 1 day left! I used most of it earlier in the year, but I wish I had budgeted properly. It's a few more months before it resets.

When will the reset be taking place?

I have just come back from a period of recharging the chess batteries and would like to know how long the remainder of my leave must keep me.

Each player's reset is based on the day he/she signed up for a ChessConquest account.

For example, if you signed up on 12 November 2011, your vacation time will reset automatically annually on 12 November.
